The work of Monique van den Boomen has an individuality that cannot be ignored.
Spatial, composed work with various materials and techniques, subtly and carefully coordinated and at the same time a bit rough, unpolished.
She masters a multitude of techniques through her studies (Tehatex Tilburg).
Composed.
A careful way of assembling leads to reinforcement of the individual parts.
They influence each other in her work in such a way that the whole is lifted to a higher level:
A new story has emerged.
Transience.
This is an increasingly recurring theme, both in ceramics and in combined work.
Sometimes literally, such as with clay prints of plants, they are immortalized in stoneware, but also an image of time that has passed is "frozen" by Monique.
She uses iconic images for this, such as the bottles with Lourdes water in the shape of a Mary and the 1960s poodle. An upgrade from a cheap plastic mass-produced item to sustainability, even art!
Discarded adored ones are restored and saved from oblivion with a new appearance.
Nature.
Hollow shapes as a basis, which refer to forms from nature. The title often refers to Underwater Creatures, Discovered or Undiscovered!
In addition to concrete, she mainly uses papercrete, a technique she has developed herself; it gives less weight and more freedom to shape.
