Karin Hovius: "After my retirement I started making collages with Photoshop techniques. I am self-taught. My education was Gymnasium b, Master French and Master Biology. Occupation: Teaching biology at a HAVO/VWO. That has nothing to do with art, unless one can elevate education to an art. Unfortunately that is not always possible.
The motivation for my work is the awareness that we filter the world around us and put it on a map. This information is then fixed. We can no longer look behind or through it. That brought me to photographing simple objects and combining them in such a way that one can look "through" them and enter another layer of reality. From that point of view, the collages can talk to you in their own language. And it is up to you to answer their questions.
Recently I have started participating in a number of exhibitions, such as with the art group "Meer kunst" and their exhibition in the Oosterkerk Amsterdam. Recently also an anniversary exhibition with art group Sint Lucas in the Loods6, Amsterdam. Depending on my vision I want to start my own exhibition in Duivendrecht. There I want to emphasize videos, which can be projected in a professional way, and 3D from guest artists."
