Jan Woning was born on the 13th of October 1948 in Kampen, Holland. He started working as an advertising painter for Siebrand te Kampen (famous beverage manufacturer). He painted, among others, Tjalken and BM-ers (fishing ships). From 1983 to 1985 Jan attended the free academy in Uffelte. The love for old fishing ships: botters, tjalks and BM-ers were preserved, these vessels can be found in the many seascapes that Jan has made over the years.
Jan Woning has done a lot of painting in recent years, in his former hometown; Kampen, Jan had his own studio-gallery at the end of the 1980s, where Jan made the cityscape on Kampen for a television program of the NCRV, among other things. Jan has also taught students for more than 10 years and made many wall paintings, including in "de postwagen" in Tolbert, of which the banquet halls were provided with decors, also in the H.J.C. Riding school, he painted decors on the walls. Furthermore, Jan made a wall painting of no less than 5x6 meters in the Toscanini Restaurant in Hoogezand, and a wall painting of no less than 40 meters was made in the fish pond center in Waskemeer. Jan also painted the walls in the former amusement park "de Vluchtheuvel" in Norg. Jan also provided fairground attractions with a painting, specifically a children's merry-go-round, owned by the Harms family from Assen.
In addition to his own work, Jan also makes commissioned paintings, for which he has a studio-gallery at Gedempte Zuiderdiep 70 in Groningen, where all paintings are made. There is also a permanent exhibition and he sells his paintings there too.
