Gerrit Kok was born in The Hague in 1941.
Gerrit: "From my earliest childhood I have been in contact with aviation.
At first at the end of the war when I lived on the outskirts of The Hague, as a small toddler I saw the food drops of the Allies.
According to my mother, I had a fascination about airplanes ever since.
I started building and flying models from the age of 12 and also started drawing and painting from home. My father was quite an amateur painter, so drawing and painting materials were usually available at my home.
In addition to an interest in history and a nice (hobby) knowledge of aviation, combined with drawing and painting, I became a “Aviation painter”. Then at a certain point I came in contact with a group of painters who already formed a club in 1983, following the example of the English “Guild of Aviation Artists”, the English club of aviation painters.
In 1986 I was admitted to this “Dutch Guild of Aviation Artists and participated in various exhibitions, including Aviodome Schiphol, Fokker exhibition space, Military Aviation Museum, Air gunners room in the town hall of Dronten and presently until the end of 2023 an exhibition in the Aviodrome in Lelystad.
Since 2006 I am chairman of the Club of Dutch Aviation Artists. This association is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year!
In addition to aviation subjects, I paint other subjects like ships, cars and cityscapes and also cartoon-like drawings.
With all these activities, I have had a nice hobby studio/gallery in our hometown of Gorinchem together with my wife Christine de Wijse for over a year.
I hope you all enjoy my work.
