Dutch mixed media artist Ianthe Elbers lived abroad for years, moved across the Netherlands several times but is now back at base: the Betuwe and its fertile clay. Here, at the heart of the Dutch fruit production, she explores her former farm life and its contradictions. She sees the rapid change of nature over the recent years, and tries to grasp it in drawings and paintings. Ianthe Elbers emphasizes what happens when human influence on nature becomes too strong and becomes unbalanced.
Since a few years she works with layers on panels of wood and paints mainly with home made egg tempera, an ancient technique, resulting in bright original colors, long durability and high quality. The wood itself has its own quality as well, and its patterns are kept visible. Parts are carved and sanded in order to make its own particular substance visible.
