Voortdurend stroomt de wereld om mij heen ongehinderd naar binnen, Zien, horen, ruiken en voelen - een overvloed aan prikkels die mijn aandacht vragen en me dwingen te filteren. Ik selecteer continu en zoek balans; een dans tussen het laten binnenstromen van ervaringen en het beschermen van mijn eigen grenzen.
In mijn werk vertaalt deze balansoefening zich in mijn aanpak. Vereenvoudigen is mijn kracht; het weglaten van overbodige details onthult de essentie - enkel de juiste energie en emotie blijft over.
Zowel in mijn werk als in mijn dagelijkse leven ben ik voortdurend aan het zoeken naar het juiste evenwicht. Het vinden van die perfecte combinatie tussen uitbundige energie en subtiele emotie is cruciaal. Ik wil het juiste laten zien en het overbodige weglaten, een harmonie bewaren tussen wat binnenkomt en wat naar buiten straalt.
Deze dagelijkse zoektocht naar balans is niet alleen een kenmerk van mijn werk maar tevens een weerspiegeling van mijn eigen ontwikkeling.
Net zoals mijn persoonlijkheid is mijn kunst explosief en puur, zonder overdaad. Ze omarmt een kleurenpalet van overvloed, subtiel afwijkend van het gangbare, doordrenkt met een onuitputtelijke energie. Ze is krachtig maar zacht, opvallend zonder dominantie, kwetsbaar en vol van kracht. Dat is wie ik ben; zo is mijn werk.
Ik heb een grote liefde voor garens en werk hier dan ook al ruim 25 jaar mee. Het organische karakter van dit materiaal spreekt me enorm aan; het blijft altijd in beweging waardoor ik het nooit volledig onder controle kan krijgen. Dit dwingt me enerzijds om de kunst van het loslaten te omarmen. Anderzijds stelt het tastbare aspect van garen en de diversiteit aan texturen mij in staat om diepte en dimensie aan mijn werk toe te voegen.
In februari 2023 is mijn ontwerp van 'het Meisje met de parel' tentoongesteld in het prestigieuze Mauritshuis in Den Haag. Met mijn interpretatie van een vermist werk van Johannes Vermeer bereikte ik de finale van het het tv-programma 'De Nieuwe Vermeer'.
Inmiddels is mijn werk op verschillende locaties geëxposeerd, waaronder een driedaagse expositie in Museum de Kantfabriek in Horst en een metro-expositie in Barcelona. In augustus 2023 mocht ik mijn werk tentoonstellen tijdens een expositie in kunstgalerie K26 in Oss.
Over mijn werk.
My work is a constant search for balance. Finding the right balance in image, color and texture. What is the essence and how can I represent it?
I am guided by energy. Fine, pure and above all authentic energy. I have a preference for portraits. Faces that tell a story with real emotion. And I try to capture that feeling and energy and translate it into textiles. By simplifying. Filterable so that only the essence remains. I translate energy and emotion into surfaces, lines, color and texture.
In my abstract work I look for the total energy that the whole radiates. I work more with layered lines, freer shapes, depth and tactile textures. While I try to capture the energy in the image in a portrait, in my abstract work I focus more on tactile textures and look for the balance between harmony and contrast.
My work is always an explosion of color that immediately attracts attention. Without ever losing sight of the balance. I look for the right proportions to connect with you and capture your attention without overwhelming your senses. My explosive style attracts attention from a distance. Only when you get closer do you discover the true nature of the material, see different dimensions and textures and feel the urge to touch it.
The process of tufting consists of several different steps. While designing, I bring my ideas to life and look for the right image, shape, composition and color scheme. This is followed by the physical aspect of the tufting itself, where I carefully choose each color, material, pile height and texture.
The final part of the process is finishing and detailing the work. Using razors, scissors and tweezers I detail all the lines and create that tactile texture that brings my art to life.
The last threads....
I use high-quality yarns; ranging from 100% wool, wool mix, merino wool, cotton and acrylic. The frame is an integral part of my work and I work together with a craft frame maker to execute this last aspect to perfection. This professional finish not only contributes to the visual coherence of my work, but also ensures its durability and quality.
Due to the weight of my canvases, I always use a deeper frame for my larger works. This construction provides space at the rear for the attachment of an iron frame. Although this mechanism is invisible, it provides firm support and ensures that the artwork remains safe and solid.
Each canvas has a unique number and all relevant information is on the back. These details are accompanied by a corresponding certificate of authenticity, which emphasizes and confirms the unique and exclusive character of each work.
