Roos van der Meijden

Roos van der Meijden

Roos van der Meijden, born in 1979, is a realistic painter with classic features in her work. But whoever looks longer will see that her work is also influenced by modern times and materials. With oil and acrylic paint, she builds on the principles of Old Dutch painting, which she combines with her own insights and colors. Her cityscapes and interiors are volatile moments of daily life. Moments that unfold in our often hurried existence, without having a second eye for the beauty of it. With her paintings, Roos van der Meijden wants to freeze the time for a while, to show us what beautiful moments would otherwise escape us. We are given the time to continue enjoying endlessly. And by studying the paintings, you might want to look at things around you. Although subjects and situations vary in Roos van der Meijden's paintings, contrasts between light and shadow and reflections are recurring themes. In addition, the paintings rarely represent an exact copy of reality. The reality is the reason for painting, not the purpose. During her education she became interested in the way in which the environment can reflect in water and how the wave movements reflect the light. Over the years, various subjects have passed, but reflections continue to inspire her. Roos van der Meijden graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague in 2001 from the department graphics. At that time, she used to make color-etches for which she won the Allianz Graphics Prize in 2001. In 2008 she made the decision to start painting. This was rewarded in 2011 with the honorary title Talent of the Year in the election Artist of the Year. Since then she has been included in the 25 most popular artists in this election every year.
