Leena Blom

Leena Blom

The Finnish Leena Blom creates her bronze sculptures from the melting pot of experiences she has taken with her from the 3 different continents in which she feels at home.
Europe, where her roots lie, forms an important basis for the journeys of her creative imagination. Australia and Asia have also strongly influenced these processes. The richness of the Asian esthetic is found in the nod to temples and gods in her sculptures. The epic migrations of man and horse along the silk route from China to Europe through the Central Asian cultures form a carpet of possibilities for her imaginings. Images of man and goods on horseback symbolise her own migration through culture, language and philosophy.

In 1992, the very young Leena arrived in the Netherlands to build a new life with the love of her life. 30 years later, after various career switches, her dream of making art and creating daily is her reality. 10 years ago, she stepped into the shoes of the independent artist and she has never longed for the predictability of the 9-5 since. Living with the possibility of creating art from materials and telling a story is a passionate existence.
The intensity of this passion is also evident in her work ethic and need for experimentation. As well as bronze sculptures, Leena does not shy away from using other forms and materials to give her ideas form. Paint, textiles, clay, metal, interiordesign and garden design are all implemented to create. A world that tells a story is born piece by piece.
