Alma Hermans

Alma Hermans

Alma Hermans is a Dutch painter who lives in Holland. She studied at the Academy for counselling and coaching in Amsterdam, Holland. About 10 years ago Alma began, next to her work as an artist, as a reintegration coach and a career counsellor. With Alma´s background as a counsellor she now mainly helps people who are stuck in their work. When Alma was young, she read Ithaca, a poem by Konstantinos Kavafis, about travelling towards a goal and the importance of the journey itself. Whether in her thoughts or in the reality around her, Alma is always inspired by being en route, in order to come home. Alma´s paintings are made quickly. By her not thinking about it, they become powerful. The paintings are the result of gradual processes of absorption, of landscapes that touch her, with their beauty, their fragility, their untamed quality. A grand landscape often bears signs of human presence – a hut, a path, a section of earth that has been shaped, a garden. Traces of a temporary presence, part of a journey. When we are long gone, the landscape remains. Enough for itself.
