Ton Pret is an artist with a very personal style, characterized by a particularly daring use of color, incredibly imaginative figures and an explosion of spontanity, passion and positivity. Influential people in the art world describe Ton Pret's style as "exponent of Cobra, edition 21st century." Whatever you call it, it's clearly its own "Ton Pret Style". Ton Pret's style can best be described as "colorful realism of another reality". With his work he wants to bring out the positive in people, by taking you to the other reality of his imagination.
Although Ton drew, sculpted and did other forms of creativity as a child, it took many years before he decided to become an artist. From one day to the next he changed course, left a wonderful company of his own and decided to follow his heart. Everyone thought he was crazy, but he persevered. He has no artistic training, but is a pure autodidact who is not guided at all by rules or currents, but only follows his inexhaustible fantasy and drive. Ton's paintings are transformations from the real world to another reality: the reality of his imagination. Thanks to his paintings and objects, he gives the viewer the opportunity to enter this other reality. The viewer is taken to another dimension and experience, which gives a special feeling of happiness.
In a very short time Ton became known in the world of art and his work could also be seen in the famous Amsterdam Beurs van Berlage, the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Louvre museum in Paris, the Kunsthal Museum in Rotterdam, the Dutch Shoe Museum, the Amsterdam Museum of Bags and Purses, the Triennale di Milano Design Museum, the Super Studio of the Milan Design Week and many more. In 2020 he was supposed to have his own exhibition in the beautiful Danubiana museum in Bratislava, but unfortunately due to the Corona pandemic this was cancelled. As it looks now, it will be 2023 or 2024. In addition, something big is about to happen in New York in 2023, but more news about that will follow later. Not only are Ton's paintings and sculptures highly sought after by collectors, art lovers and lovers of the beautiful things in life, but also his famous art shoes, jeans, jackets, watches, bags, sneakers etc. have become real collectibles. Ton designed special art shoes for the exclusive Dutch shoe brands Greve and Van den Assem and also high heels for the catwalk in Paris. Even the Dutch Shoe Museum has added some arty high heels to their collection and its art edition of the Michael Kors handbag has been added to the collection of the Dutch Museum of Bags & Purses in Amsterdam. His art edition All Stars sneakers are also highly valued by many.
Among his customers are well-known collectors and celebrities, who also appreciate his work and one of them even had his Ferrari 355 GTS painted by Ton and transformed into a lightning-fast and unique driving piece of art. Ton has also done furniture design and some really great designers / architects such as Alessandro Mendini and Alessandro Guerriero (designers of the Groninger museum) were impressed and wanted to work with him. Other special pieces of art include a genuine Fender Stratocaster in collaboration with renowned French guitarist Jean-Pierre Danel, Brian May (Queen), Steve Lukather (TOTO), Hank Marvin (SHADOWS) and French superstar Jean-Jacques Goldman. He also made some art editions of the famous Philippe Starck chairs, an art edition for an Italian designer bicycle, very special art edition sunglasses for the USA, art edition of a design bathtub, an art edition kitchen, on NIKE based art balls, an art edition Jeep Wrangler, an art edition Range Rover and much more. This year and next year, many artistic challenges are again on the agenda.
