Martin Copier

Martin Copier graduated from Academy St. Joost in Breda in 2005 and has been working as an independent artist since then.
His work is layered and you can experience the peace and patience with which he makes his work in a traditional way. He suggests movement and depth and combines painting techniques with woodcut printing. In addition, in many of his works, he stamps paint on the canvas with homemade tools, this technique creates a unique structure of paint that looks as if he is weaving with paint.
He likes to throw himself into a project, he wants maximise it to full potential and make it his own, to investigate where the boundaries are.
He is an artist who is inspired and who is constantly creating, he seizes the freedom you need as an artist to do what you feel, as a necessity. Exploring space from a deep inner conviction.
It is interesting how he influences the space and creates a field of tension within this space by adding elements such as openings, lines, light or the typical woodcut prints with moving figures.
In his work he shows that taking up space is a choice, this also applies to giving space, sharing space or claiming space. His work thus becomes an encouragement, a confirmation to follow your own path. You are dragged into his work and end up in a new universe. He challenges the viewer to open up to his world.
