Maartje van Berkel

As a child, Maartje van Berkel´s big passion was drawing and painting, although in the end, she studied Psychology at Tilburg University. After this study, painting was a wonderful experience for her so she decided to pursue her childhood´s passion. Maartje also likes to paint on commission.

In addition to painting on commission, creating work with complete freedom in creativity and ideas is the most beautiful thing there is for her. Inspiration takes over at the strangest moments and she can't wait to get started in her studio, “the happy feeling you get when creating a painting is amazing!” says Maartje van Berkel.

Her mixed media paintings are contemporary paintings. Maartje is particularly intrigued by women's faces, expressions, colours and hairstyles. The possibilities are endless, no two faces are the same.
All paintings are made with acrylic paint and with different techniques. Maartje uses many natural materials such as shells, feathers and leaves, which she finds on the beach or in the woods. Other natural materials such as wood and leather are also used in these modern paintings. Sparkling details are incorporated in each painting and as a finishing touch, these eye-catchers are finished with a thick layer of resin, this gives Maartje's unique works a luxurious and glossy appearance!
