Anita: "After painting with oil paint for a few years, I came up with the idea in 1995 to experiment with transparent paints.
Wood turned out to be the right basis for this. The structure of wood gives depth to the transparent painting. As a bonus, the wood grain remains visible.
When making my wooden furniture and decorative objects, I am inspired by an impression, an image, a feeling or an idea. The challenge then is to concretize this with wood and paint in a tangible design.
I design and build all furniture and objects myself, so that I have the right basis. By building it yourself it is possible to use the drawing of the wood grain. I mainly paint with transparent paints. Several layers of transparent paint of the same or different color have their own effect in terms of color and depth. Decorating with gold leaf and crystal beads are the icing on the cake.

The inside of my objects is just as important to me as the outside. By also decorating the inside, opening doors, drawers and boxes has an element of surprise.
My choice for consumer objects is also a silent protest against the current “throw-away society”, in which lower quality, low price and trends play a role in the constant purchase of new products. This is bad for the environment!

For each object I look for the right combination of shape, size, color and pattern with the aim of making a unique and timeless quality object. But most of all, when you see my work, I want you to raise an eyebrow and think "I've never seen anything like it before".
